Disc Golf PE Lessons

Pupils will learn the basic disc golf skills needed to play safely and have fun on the course we’ll set up in your school grounds.

Throughout the lesson pupils will learn further skills, techniques, rules, and concepts based on the age, ability, and progression during the class.

GCSE and A Level students learn more advanced concepts, the biomechanics of throwing, disc flight physics and how these all relate to other sports. A double lesson is recommended to allow time for this.

About Nathan

I ran thousands of activity sessions and lessons during my 15 years as a youth and schools worker, primary and secondary learning mentor, and foster carer.

After falling in love with disc golf I’m combining my two passions to launch Move Disc Golf!

I come with a DBS Check, PLI Insurance, Risk Assessments, a Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Certificate, and a first aid kit I hope I’ll never use.

The Move Disc Golf Games are designed to increase skills but also increase heart rates. Think “The Beep Test” but with frisbees and extra challenges. They are played by individuals, pairs, or small teams and work with mixed age and ability groups.

Move
Combine speed and agility with basic disc golf skills.

Think
Work out new game strategies with your team or partner.

Create
Design fun new holes to challenge other teams.

A 90 min session on your school grounds. Reception to KS5.

Intro to Disc Golf – Lesson Plan

All lessons start with a safety briefing, a short explanation of the game, and throwing demonstration.

The Basics
Hand out discs and a quick warm up game. Then learn How to Putt and How to Throw Straight.

On The Course
Pupils play a couple of holes on the pop up course with tips and reminders as needed.

Building Skills
A second skills activity may include:
Putt and Throw Around Corners
Throw Further
Throw Rollers and Skip Shots

On the Course Again
Get back on the course for the rest of the lesson to play as many different hole types as possible.

End of The Lesson
We can end with a distance throwing competition, a putting game, or a pupil vs teacher showdown.

The Pop Up Course

We need space to do the throwing activities and to set up a short 6 basket course. Most primary schools and high schools will have more than enough room on football pitches and playing fields.

Disc golf courses are more interesting and fun if there are trees or any other features to throw around and over. Football goals and cricket nets work well. Piles of wood chip can elevate baskets as shown in photo above.
